Description:

This project follows in the footsteps of the research carried out by GALMA members with the UK governmental regulator Ofcom and with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications to assess the quality of live subtitles in the UK and Canada. The project envisages the first official assessment of live subtitling quality on Spanish TV. The aim is to analyse the accuracy rate (as measured by the NER model), latency and speed of the live subtitles produced for a sample of news, sports and interview programmes broadcast on the main national channels (TVE, Antena 3, Cuatro, Tele 5 and La Sexta).

The research is being conducted by María Rico-Vázquez and Nazaret Fresno, who has conducted previous research on the quality of live captions in the US, and supervised by Pablo Romero-Fresco, who has led the above-mentioned projects in Canada and the UK.

The first stage of the analysis is planned for July-November 2018 and the first set of results will be released in December 2018.
