The observatory
The aim of GALMA is to promote research, training and knowledge transfer in media accessibility for people who cannot have access to original audiovisual media. We are aligned with a wide notion of media accessibility that concerns people with disabilities, cognitive impairments and learning or age-related difficulties, but also users without disabilities who may need access to content in a foreign language.
We are concerned with a wide range of topics, from subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing to audiodescription for the blind and partially sighted, dubbing and media interpreting. Special attention is paid to quality and the integration of media accessibility as part of the audiovisual production process.
