Tamara Varela Vila holds a PhD in Translation & Paratranslation from the University of Vigo. She currently works as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Translation and Linguistics, School of Philology and Translation, University of Vigo (Spain), where she lectures in French/Portuguese-Spanish/Galician translation as well as in other transversal subjects. She is also a lecturer in the PhD Programme in Translation & Paratranslation (University of Vigo). Alongside her teaching and research responsibilities, she is also a professional translator, mainly dealing with texts from the areas of chemistry and biomedicine.

Dr. Varela Vila’s main research interests are the development of corpus-based multilingual language resources. The RERCOR (Resources on Rare Diseases) portal, co-directed by Dr. Sánchez Trigo and herself, is one of the most remarkable results. It aims to provide a set of multilingual tools which allow for a better knowledge of linguistic usage within the said medical subdomain.
